The Science Museum of Minnesota lab visited our second graders today. First they talked about the elements that make up a community: recreation, retail, roads, lakes, soccer fields -- the list was long. Then plans were made and communities were built. So much to consider: does the city have a road to it? Does the road have a bridge over the river? Do we really need a Pizza Hut by the soccer field? (The answer was a definite "yes!") It was fun to watch the community develop on many levels.

And Mr. Thayer's class was looking at soil samples at the same time, but in their classroom. Students have brought in soil samples from home and they are comparing and contrasting ... Science is so cool!
